Having seen our advert in MCAD magazine, Street Crane called to see if we would help them produce renders for two new hoist designs they were about to produce.
They exported the entire product assembly from their CAD system as a single STEP file and we imported this into Maya with no problem, it contained over 27,000 surfaces. We were then ready to apply materials and light the hoists. This was achieved with lights and bounce cards etc just like a real photo shoot, but inside the computer world. But unlike real life we were able to render the hoist floating in mid air with no support and in a perfectly white environment hard to acheive in the real world.
Street Crane were so pleased with their 5,500 pixel renders that they had the rear shots of the products rendered too. All complete with alpha channels too, which means graphic designers don't need to cut out the image from the background for use in brochures etc, this comes with the render which is a great benefit of computer generated images.
A few weeks later we received a parcel from Street Crane containing magazines, their new brochure, poster and even an mouse mat which had been created using the new images.
" We were able to get firm orders for our hoists before we even went into full production with them." says Mark Hadfield from Street Crane.
